Reflections and possible solutions. Video
After being in the Centro Parraga and have pre-released the piece, there were many interesting conversations about Avatar * a fun night subsequently Murcia. Criticism, always constructive, we greatly appreciate, because they make us think, rethink, routing and improve our ideas.
The first debate, with John Nicholas
(Párraga center director) and other friends for dinner later, was the ability to guide the discussion at the end of the show in different ways as we have done so far . Until now, when the public was already settled in the room, just before the start, we drove to them informally (Mario normally do) and very quickly we informed them that at the end of the show, we would like to open a debate, discussion or debate with the audience who stay to think, ask or suggest anything. Our idea was obviously not force anyone to this lecture or symposium, but since both Mario and Roman are located at the control desk quite near the stage, we found that this constituted a major barrier to freedom to leave people out that he did not want to stay at this talk and leave the area without more. Also, start this talk / conference right after the show can be a bit violent for some (including ourselves, because obviously we are in a somewhat altered state after having acted for many people). To solve these logistical problems, we decided that from now on, give you 10 little minutes for the public output (cigarette, including comments, etc), so then, more calmly and freely, those interested can go back to the room and who does not have any commitment to re-enter.
think that with this new method we will all be quiet and nobody will feel obliged led to this part of the evening, it is not our goal, and it is likely that some want to go home with good or bad taste of the show without give an opinion immediately. And for those who want it, you can always communicate with us more comfortable (even anonymously) through the blog, a posteriori.
On the other hand, another of the debates of the night was the
"content" of the piece .
discourse. For some, lacking a speech or content. For others, dance along with the visuals, because they were suggestive enough and let your imagination toward a content and / or explanation also transferable.
Obviously, for us, yes there is a discourse on the back and we worked our way, we think every artist should do, but it is true, then theorizing about what you do, and more about the language of dance, is complicated. Dance is
ephemeral language, personal and / or abstract, which for some is a bit annoying, the need to "want to understand" what has or intends to have in a "narrative", and yet for others, this same premise represents an open window and an invitation to each viewer put the last bit to give meaning and coherence final, equally abstract and difficult to explain personal. The dance shows feelings that are difficult to capture in words. Dance is ephemeral and highly complex (or basic) as you look. And when also accompanied by visual, light, music, silences, pauses, symbols, etc ... becomes an experience highly stimulating to the senses and perhaps it is difficult for the logical and rational understanding. My premise is that my dance is open to final contamination by the viewer finally give an opinion or a unique and personal.
However, on modern dance, and more on a project of this style which combines different techniques and one in which the process is as important as the outcome, I contend that it can (and should) have a speech, containing part of the artist which may be exposed to public from there begin a dialectical debate.
Maybe it's the weak point of many who work in field of dance: to expose our ideas into words.
Maybe it's time we all reflect and try to give a more understandable to the public and to ask ourselves what we want to present our process and our results. This, of course (and in my opinion) should never watch or disrupt the very magic of dance, movement and feelings that they cause. But it is possible to extend the premises, the pattern and final content of the material presented. And much more when you propose a talk at the end.
The conclusion to all these thoughts after the presentation of Avatar * Center Párraga in Murcia, is that in these days we are working on trying to make a small exhibition or presentation of what have been our key points in creating the piece, by way of introduction to that final conversation. We believe it is important to give a context and from there get people reviewing and / or questions. It will be difficult, because when you get full in trying to create a short speech about your job, you realize that there are thousands of details and refinements are difficult to explain and trapping in oral speech. We will continue working on it and of course the piece itself.
Many thanks to everyone s who felt, questioned, and criticized that night.
continue to believe, and that's what matters.
(By the way, if you read me who were with us that night, please give me your personal mail, because I have some photos your / our of the bars, which will send you happy).
