Parraga Technical Requirements. Part 7: Vision Computer (Hardware)

How about people!. After a few mounts we carry with Avatar * Parraga center and arrived in Murcia, we picked up a bit of experience in the electronic "machine vision" or use a motion sensor camera. Therefore, I would once again continue with the post dedicated to "technical requirements", in which you want to talk today of hardware that I think is best for this type of project and their pros and cons.

As you know, to detect motion, we used the technique of infrared vision to affect us any other type of light or mark that can confuse your camera lens that interests us is the person who is in scene.

Camera:
There are many types of cameras, thousands more. I think a lot of jogging back and forth the best option is a standard camera in B / N and composite video output, monitoring of life, something that is almost hard to find in stores but that in turn represents our cheapest option. It is important to have a good quality image, but actually most of them already have, even if China, as in our case. However, the better are more defined and sometimes you will come in handy.
One of the reasons why we have this type of camera is its robustness and simplicity, anywhere in the world you'll find a long RCA or BNC cable and no problem to ask wherever you go, contrary to what you could go with a firewire or usb, which should amplify it when you go over a few meters. Not to mention the price of a long firewire cable. Logically, if you need space and want to hide your camera because yours is an installation in a confined space, you might have better options and this will perhaps be a little "rough."

Features needed:
-White and black.
-standard optics.
-Gain manual.
-BNC or RCA connection.
standard support-thread.

This camera shop at Radio Onda in Barcelona and it cost me about 70 €.

Varifocal Lenses:
In the case of lenses is important to have all possible options for opening, because sometimes you go to sites that are not as high as you like and that can be a headache if you want to cover the entire space projection. In our case, we have recently acquired a lens 2.8 to 12mm with a focus 1.4, manual iris and a viewing angle of approximately 105 º, it allows us to hurry up viewing space.

lens acquired it in Seguridadplus and not have cost about 70 €.

Infrared filter :
There are several types of infrared filters, but we are interested in anyone who correctly filter all light other than infrared. There are several ways to get one, I have several different routes, one to buy it on ebay and was to be combined with Sony cameras, this was the cheapest I found, but is small for our lens and in the end we did not use, about 12 €.
Another option is to cut filters, but honestly I have not found and not on the Internet, which ultimately end up opting for the expensive option but certainly the most reliable, camera filter, hoya type .

The that we have is not one of this brand but the quality is the same, the brand is B + W and cost me about 80 € here in Barcelona, \u200b\u200bcarito filter.

Support of infrared light:
At first, we thought to use infrared light provided by 3 spotlights almost invisible, but these, which had served me great for lower parts, it falls far short of the heights that we use. The case is available as one, we set out to buy two more, but in the end we found the best solution of all: Use own infrared light emitted by regular incandescent bulbs in scenic areas. For this we chose a panorama type picture, so-called symmetric and we put a filter in RGB color, creating a kind of black, to cover as much as possible visible light and let the spectrum of infrared light to illuminate and help us see in total darkness conditions. A simple way to use the theatrical equipment to carry fewer things well and be safer.

Computer Connection:
To connect the composite video camera, you will need a converter card that can be USB or Firewire, and in the case of Pc there are plenty of models like this one that teng o. In Mac is not much, but what's there works without drivers, reliably and via firewire, I will not hide my flipadura with Apple now, but my experience in this area is quite ominous in Windows. In our case we use a Canopus ADVC-55 , ranging from death and is light and sturdy, plus I think it is compatible with PC. Price approx. 200 €.

I hope I have described with some precision the materials we use as a motion sensor, there are many more options, may be better for other facilities and will probably forget many details and I am sure you more questions arise. .. We are happy to answer in this thread or via mail, as usual. ;)

Cheers
