Israel will take action if the UN recognized Palestinian state
Israel warned the fifteen members of the Security Council of the United Nations and other major countries of the European Union (EU) that if the Palestinian Authority continues its efforts to gain recognition as independent state pre-1967 borders, in September, Israel will respond with unilateral measures, according to a Haaretz report. A newspaper report said that Foreign Ministry officials said the general director, Rafael Barak, sent a classified cable to more than thirty Israeli embassies instructing them to raise a protest at the highest level in response to Palestinian attempts to gain international recognition for a State within the UN General Assembly in the month of septiembre.cuerpo diplomat explained in the message that international support for recognition, including most EU members, encourages Palestinians to leave negotiations with Israel and go quickly to the UN for the eventual recognition of a State. Another European diplomat said that following the standoff, the recognition of a Palestinian state seems to be inevitable in September.
